The Electoral College gives additional weight to the smaller states, the Connecticut Compromise. It helps the country, I believe, to take into account in government more than just the large population centers.
Thanks for your note. I am thinking that politicians will never agree to a change, though Maine and Nebraska (where I used to live) do spread the influence more. Most of the suggestions for change on these matters, if I am not mistaken, arise from people in big states like New York or California. Hmmm, I wonder why? :)
The electoral college is only part of the protection of the minority from the majority. The real basis is its basis in the number of senators and representatives which is the basis of the electoral college numbers. The senate is the key with two from every state no matter the size. It was the Connecticut Compromise. To pass the Constitution the small states wanted assurance that the large states would not dominate the country without the smaller states’ voices being heard, hence the Senate. And that carries over into the Electoral College, it gives the smaller states a bit extra voice, so that they have to be taken into account. The problem is politicians who try to fool us into thinking that compromise is unnecessary.
Whoa, good peg on the cost of the card. The card I got my wife (very beautiful card) was 8 dollars and something. We will be married 50 years in September. She is worth it (got her some candy too), wonderful Mom to our two children.
The earliest sunset is around December 7, the latest sunrise is around January 4. The waxing crescent moon in the cartoon could not be up at midnight in the winter, though in mid-summer it could set after midnight.
