Problem here is the quality of the drawing. It was not obvious to me that the Grim Reaper wasn’t looking at the can in his hand but over at the scythes.
Thank y’all for clarifying what was going on. The “titles” in the panels had no meaning for this non-gambling reader who’s also not a sports fanatic.
The KJV TRANSLATORS (not “writers”) minimized paraphrasing almost to a fault for fear of losing their heads if the king thought the resulting translation was polemic and favoring the “wrong” denomination. My point is, these men did the best they could with what they had for source texts. They should not be criticized or faulted.
There are several Greek words that can be translated INTO English as “love”; to wit, philos, or brotherly love; eros, or romantic love; and agape, or love of God and neighbor. The Greek passage quoted above has “agape”, which, in the view of the KJV translators, as well as St Jerome, who translated the Latin Vulgate (his rendering is “caritas”), is best translated INTO ENGLISH as “charity”.
Yup, reminds me of the 1964 RCA-Whirlpool my mother had.
