   Never were 14" floppies. 8" was the max diameter unless you know something about a secret project. You might be thinking of removable cartridge discs, like used on the Xerox Alto and other mid-1970s hardware.

   Speaking as someone who has lived thru several layoffs in Silicon Valley I can say – marketing and sales are the first to go, after outsourcing support, etc. It’s pretty rare for coders (engineers) to be let go unless it’s really drastic.

   Wes Studi and Adam Beach, in the wonderful PBS adaptations, introduced me to the Tony Hillerman novels. To this day every time I (re)read the stories I picture Wes as Joe Leaphorn and Adam as Jim Chee. Wonderful job guys!
