    I think a few panels were missing from the beginning of the story. Musa said she escaped from the bandits, but she didn’t say when. IF she escaped after being taken to the compound, that would explain a lot.

    True enough! Especially impossible if they try at night. The light dome of Miami is easily visible 100 to 200 miles off the coast.

    As a demo for some Boy Scouts I once determined my position using a stick stuck in the ground and a watch. I got within 30 miles – not really close enough to risk your life on a makeshift raft. Not nearly as easy as I make it sound. Jill is unlikely to be able to do it.

    In the original novel the thing could fly… or at least glide. Compared to that the artist’s errors are trivial.

    I think it is an example of poor writing; the crust is 500 miles thick and the pilot just announced they are at 406 miles deep. That would indeed take them the rest of the way in roughly 14 hours. I certainly agree it was still careless not to bring enough oxygen.
