Ignatz, that’s kind of the point to a certain extent – stop doing absolutely everything with the sole goal of encouraging the use of private automobiles. And of course while these cartoons point to the undeniable fact that some cyclists behave poorly, the bigger problem is drivers who kill cyclists.
Hanging up on the CEO who is on the other side of an ocean won’t have real consequences and certainly seems better than staying on the phone and letting Tiffany finish. If she even hung up – guess we’ll find out.
I’m surprised you find the aggressive reaction confusing – it’s observable regularly and seems to be to be very realistic. While I see it in “normal” life, certainly looking at politicians, business people, celebrities makes it clear is standard human behavior. As to the second point – it is a piece of fiction, and so the coincidence isn’t a coincidence. It’s a plot device.
What makes you say that language-wise the UK and Australia are more progressive than the US? My experience doesn’t show that to be the case. In the UK people have more language education in school, but it doesn’t seem to translate into a greater percentage of foreign language speakers as adults.
