It’s too bad that this is the last we’ll see of her. She should’ve been featured more often in the strip (for instance, there should’ve been a story in which Garfield introduces his Mom to Arlene).

In 1986, Calvin could’ve written something like,

    “Dear Santa,

For Christmas this year, my tiger friend Hobbes and I would each like a M. A. S. K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) toy—Rhino for me, and Outlaw for him.

    Thanks,

    Calvin"

Are you familiar with the M. A. S. K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) series of toys by Kenner? This toy franchise is based on the cartoon of the same name; the cartoon aired from 1985 through 1987, and the toys were made from 1985 through 1988. I’m surprised that Calvin never requested any of these toys as Christmas gifts; they were ordinary-looking vehicles that turned into combat vehicles. In 1987, he surely would’ve enjoyed Goliath; it consisted of a Formula 1 race car/fighter jet (Goliath I) and a ramp truck/missile launcher (Goliath II).

Here are two things that don’t make sense:

    1. When Jon saw the woman, why didn’t he stop the bike to try and ask her out?

    2. How could he have been riding fast enough for the bike to become so badly damaged after hitting a telephone pole? The front wheel being damaged makes sense, but how could the handlebars have come off?

My guess is that this was one of Roger’s “random impulse” purchases at Costclub. I’m surprised that this isn’t a recurring theme in this strip; other good choices would be:

    1. Anomalocaris

    2. Pterygotus

    3. Dunkleosteus

    4. Prionosuchus

    5. Tanystropheus

    6. Nothosaurus

    7. Placodus

    8. Henodus

    9. Shonisaurus

    10. Rutiodon

    11. Leedsichthys

    12. Plesiosuchus

    13. Machimosaurus

    14. Sarcosuchus

    15. Stomatosuchus

    16. Elasmosaurus

    17. Tylosaurus

    18. Archelon

    19. Xiphactinus

    20. Parapuzosia

    21. Basilosaurus

    22. Otodus megalodon

    23. Livyatan melvillei

    24. Odobenocetops

    25. Hydrodamalis gigas (Steller’s sea cow)

Here’s what I don’t understand: why is it that, when Jon asks a woman out for a date, she usually just rejects him, and doesn’t explain what it is about him that makes her want to not go out with him so that he can make sure to refrain from it? Sometimes, women even program their answering machines to hang up on him. From what I understand, Jon’s not bad company; the problem is that most of the women whom he tries to date are too judgmental (at least Liz will lighten up in about 8 years or so).

Here’s how this should have been worded:

First panel: “Ever notice how it takes two weeks to lose a pound…”

Third panel: “…and only two seconds to gain it back?”

Jim left out the question mark and the dots.

Now would be a good time for another story like this. It could involve National Geographic issues such as the following:

    1. Dec. 1976

    2. Feb. 1979

    3. Aug. 1979

    4. Jul. 1981

    5. Apr. 1987

    6. Jun. 1989

    7. Dec. 1990

    8. Jan. 1993

    9. Feb. 1996

    10. Dec. 1997

    11. Feb. 1999

    12. Dec. 2005

    13. Aug. 2007

    14. Apr. 2010

    15. Sept. 2010

    16. Nov. 2015

Actually, it’s in 6 months and 4 weeks.

It wasn’t a well; it was the basement of a new house being put up that started flooding.
