Oh, I remember pay toilets. The big department stores in Boston used to have pay stalls – which were always much nicer than the ones that were free. The pay stalls also had these auto-folding toilet seats that would tilt up into a shroud where they would be bathed in ultraviolet light. Instant death to microbes! (Or so the signs led you to believe.)
And in New England there are still people who call it “tonic”. I wish I had photos of the several supermarkets’ overhead “what’s in this aisle” signs that had Tonic, not Soda, nor Soft Drinks.
