I love that explanation. Provides clear history and reasoning … and yes! We are still the “best place in the entire internet”.

Side note – it’s really been 10 years?? Dang. I feel old now.

The eloquence of others leaves my paltry sentiments in the dust, but I add in my salutations to ✩✩ SHE ✩✩ as I keep my gaze adverted while slowly genuflecting and showing myself out.

My mother was a grammar nazi. I always dreaded when she asked to proof my English papers. She was also a teacher, so my work looked more like a crime scene with all the red ink. I avoid red pens to this day. I wrote sentences in passive voice and I still haven’t totally broken myself from doing that. In work messages I am much more likely to change to active voice than remove a final preposition. I once used an “ambiguous antecedent” and the alliteration of that one really stayed with me. Now I chuckle when folks who claim to be grammar nazis have no clue what it is. I miss you, Mom.

I gave up once I was out of school. I usually look at the sentence, then at the distribution of who will be reading, and decide how much mental gymnastics I want to do. 80% of the time that preposition stays as the final word.

I’m a bit late, but for anyone in the US who can travel to center of the country, there’s a Greyhound Hall of Fame in Abilene, Kansas

I adopted retired/failed racers for a number of years. My bestest boy was a rated grey and only stopped racing due to age limits. His back legs were so muscled and specialized to running he could not sit. After my daughter was born and we’d gotten our 2nd grey, the adults worked on getting dogs to sit so toddler could get their food. The ‘failed racer’ plopped her butt right on down. My special boy would be there with his butt hovering about 3 inches above the floor and back legs shaking. But bless his soul, he did try. They are a great breed, especially for allergies and calmer indoor demeanors.

I appreciate the reminder! Working from home does have it’s drawbacks. But thanks to all of you, I was able to share the joy with some co-workers.
