    Andrew Wakefield, writer of the fake “mmr-causes-autism” paper, was simultaneously hawking his own version of an analogous vaccine, which for some reason hadn’t made it through the FDA certification process.

    OK, OK, the obscure reason was he never submitted it for evaluation, what with none of the large-scale, or even small-scale testing had been done.

    But he got a lot of notoriety, and the chance to sleep with beautiful women, out of it, so what’s not to like?

    Meanwhile, back at the raunch, people who want to stake their own claims to notoriety, as well as garden-variety nuts, twigged onto this fine idea of Sticking It To The MAN, and are riding this gruesomely diseased hobby horse to fame and glory.

    Moreso in the US than elsewhere, because we have the biggest and BEST combinations of idiots, predators, and money, as well as the most expensive health care in the world. And a freedom-of-speech law.
