Maybe we have saved money, but what have we lost? Each of those agencies was created for a reason. Each of those irksome regulations was created for a reason. I could save money on car repairs, maintenance and insurance by selling my car and walking everywhere, but I like having a car.

Further: I grant that in a huge enterprise such as our federal government, a certain amount of waste and fraud is inevitable. But the instances of those things, relative to the whole, does not justify the gutting of agencies nor the mass layoffs of their employees. Cutting should be done with a scalpel, not with a chainsaw. The scalpel would take longer, but it’s better than throwing all those babies out with the bathwater.

To clarify: When I mentioned the dollars, soldiers and wars, I was referring to all our history, especially since 1941, not merely to the Trump years. In other words, to what we have spent in money and lives to defend our territory, people, and way of life. In addition, there are the many specific safeguards designed to protect the vital computer systems and data belonging to the treasury and other agencies. It just seems reckless to throw all that away and allow Musk unfettered access to those systems and data.

Spending trillions on defense, recruiting, training and deploying millions of soldiers, fighting numerous wars and then giving one individual from another country the keys to the kingdom and letting him run roughshod thru several federal agencies is silly.

Exactly. It proves that there’s something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

I was walking in the woods once when Sasquatch saw me! Unfortunately, nobody would believe him…

There is a spot immediately above downtown El Paso, TX, which has an obelisk that claims to mark the southernmost point in the Rocky Mountains.
