    Hmm. Rocky Road is a pretty good description of how I feel about this right now. This new Nancy started off so strong, and I’m still totally on board (after not even knowing of the comic during Gilchrist’s run), and it definitely feels way more Bushmiller than it has in decades.

    But I think MJ hit the nail on the head here – despite great premise and jokes, there’s something off about Nancy’s demeanor lately. She’s sometimes bratty, but a lot of the time she’s just naive, or she just wants to cause mischief. These last few strips, she’s felt almost vindictive and toxic. It ends up kind of killing the execution – being destructively rude is funny when it didn’t happen recently, or with proper pacing. But when it’s the default tone, it just ends up a little more annoying than anything. Hope Jaimes tones down the behavior a bit – I want the gag to shine through again, because with Bushmiller a lot of the time the gag was almost the main character itself.

    Must be those porn-lovin’ privacy screens messing with SMSM’s eyesight. Hey, dude has it hard in liberal library America.

    @SMSM

    A) a “privacy screen” is not an anti-glare screen, a privacy screen is constructed way differently and serve two different purposes

    B) I would be interested in studying the technology that selectively filters out porn only and is the only thing that people can view, because that seems 10 times more advanced than the neural network technology that is the closest thing to be able to do that which we currently have right now

    C) It is literally illegal to view and present pornographic content in a public space. It is considered public indecency.

    D) You are creepy as fuck. Get out of my comments.

    Okay, everyone, sound off: are anti-glare screens more or less annoying for you?

    Also, cute rendition of Nancy here. a bit kid-pudgy and very Good Kid.

    Honestly, this is brilliant. It’s somewhat funny, and very clever in concept. Good visual humor, and simple, clean colors. But it’s also cute, nostalgic, and relaxing – it feels much more like the ideal that people praised Gilchrist for than Gilchrist ever churned out. It covers a wide range of good emotion. It also diversifies away from the latest strip’s overreliance on technology jokes.
