My junior high (20 some-odd years ago), in a small rural California town, had staggered lunches. We did not have a cafeteria, just a small building that had the kitchen and outdoor seating. We used to take our lunches to the hill/cliff that overlooked the field and eat there. It became a miniature economy of kids claiming, and then renting, the best spots. I had a premium spot under a tree that I rented out for $5 a day.
