That’s Linux’s real shortcoming: assistance. In most Linux forums, most people assume you have at least moderate familiarity with Linux systems – especially Bash commands. But things have gotten better on that front. Or at least, with some patient googling, answers are there to be found for 90% of issues. The other 10% tends to conclude with “Known issue; they’re working on it.”
I’m calling shenanigans. No way someone as well-read (and smug about it) as Clyde would have never read Pratchett. And there’s no way you can read much Discworld (especially the latter volumes) without encountering that idiom.
I’m trying to get into Linux, via virtual machines. I installed VirtualBox and it failed repeatedly, giving me useless error messages. In frustration, I installed VirtualBox’s competitor, VMWare. It too failed, but gave me a useful error message: Check BIOS for Virtualization settings. Apparently the internal sorcery that allows for virtual machines is turned off by default on my laptop. Restarted, went into the BIOS settings, found the appropriate settings and flipped them to “on”. Boom goes the dynamite.
Here’s hoping the woman finds her useful error message soon!
I do “love” how so many Swifties think of Kelce as some JAG (“Just Another Guy”) athlete, and not the perennial All-Pro, first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, (second) best at his position in team history player that he is.
Not saying anyone here is one of those, just thought it needed to be said.
