   but it’s extreme in afghanistan, in the middle east at the end of WW1 T. E. Lawrence’ dream of a unified arab world failed becasue they were not ready to think of nations, the different groups, lacking a common enemy-the turks- fell back to their old tribal loyalties rather than saying ‘gee we worked together well’ They have culturally evolved now that there are sustainable nation states but on the fringes they still fall down, look at the mess in Somalia, Bush the younger wasted money trying to make Afghanistahn ‘modern’ including a zip code system for the post office. You can argue if they don’t want this they have the right to not ‘develop’ like the west, but the result is not a country but a mess of conflicting groups without peace or development of nay kind.

   this really shows the problem with Afghanistan, there is no loyalty to a nation or long term vision, they never really developed out of the tribal phase, just got better toys.
