@programmher . . . and that’s a tribute to the skill of the cartoonist, creating a character vivid enough to rile readers so thoroughly!

As an old woman who is (a) a feminist and (b) very fond of men, I’m happy to share opening doors — that is, whoever gets there first opens the door for whoever comes along next. And we grin cheerfully at one another, and somebody says, “Thank you!”
Indeed, there once was a mannerly commitment to standing when a woman entered the room. The response was not nearly so mannerly, however, when she wanted to vote, or get a PhD, or share household tasks, or run the Boston Marathon.
Today, women, like men, if they are lucky and dedicated, can become doctors — or can stay at home and raise kids — or choose from a vast range of other possibilities. And the wonderful men I know are having a very fine time on this adventure together with the women in their lives!

@Mordock and @JPuzzleWhiz The thing is, Tiffany is a terrible waitress, was a miserable child-care worker, and was an awful actress . . . But . . . she was a wonderful mani/pedi artist, and was having a ball. People here have pointed out the need for training and a license: sure, but she could get those — and build a successful, satisfying career!

To the online Luann commentary crew:
Thanks to you all for your entertaining thoughts!
The Anchorage Daily News carries Luann, and, through the past few years, watching the artwork and characters develop has been a treat. Love Greg Evans’ (and now also his daughter’s) gift for conveying nuances of expression with a few lines, and love the complexity of characters we’ve come to know and like.
However, I spend four months every year in Vietnam. The American newspaper I get there (usually two or three days each week, from a cheery and very kind street vendor) is the International New York Times: a great newspaper, but no Luann.
So, when I’m overseas, I check Luann on line . . . and thus, last year, stumbled upon your Comments section. Have become totally addicted. You regulars are lovely fun, and the occasional personal notes — Mordock’s giving up coffee for Lent, Brdshtt’s birthday with the avalanche of good wishes from the online gang — and Schrodinger’s Dog and Luann1212 and David Huie Green and Kauri44 and Seismic-2 and Tyge and Kenhense and Pipe Tobacco and all the rest — great stuff! Love the occasional info from Sheriff Mordecai. Love the way you are all alternately crabby and generous with each other.
I registered only to send this message; won’t be joining in the thread, but will continue to read and relish your insights and laughs. Again, many thanks!
