I live in a valley in Northern California where robins overwinter, so they arrive in November as a sign of impending gloom until there are masses of them shouting in the trees. (Alfred Hitchcock jokes are made.) The cats love to watch them eat our berries and bed down in the blackberry bushes. This month, they have been flying away to be recognized as the third robin of spring elsewhere.
In our family, it is “Fox, Goose, and Cabbage” and the expression is used frequently when something is going to take a lot of juggling and steps. I used it at work and then had to explain the whole sequence to a confused coworker.
Our late Siamese bit along every exposed edge of a 10 yard roll of plastic sheeting. It looked like lacework when we unrolled it. I hate to think of what he’d have done to a tuna packet.
