Oh, I love a good stuffed cabbage as well. It’s actually one of my favorite meals. My grandmother used to make it when I was a kid. My sisters never cared for it, which meant more for me! I’ve never heard of softening the leaves any way but boiling.

One of mine was born to a feral mama and still has a bit of a wild streak even though we adopted her at about 2 months old. She bites hard enough to draw blood. Luckily she generally gives you a warning nip before she goes full on devil cat.
