   That is a kind and caring observation, and it did strike me that when they took Sophie that the woman really needed someone or something to love, and the man couldn’t refuse her. Perhaps she is experiencing cognitive decline or loneliness. If so, hopefully the story will provide an opportunity for them to learn the proper ways to adopt and care for a cat. With some guidance, they could become very loving and doting pet parents, and brighten the life of a shelter pet as well as their own.

   I am hoping the same! That would be a happy outcome for all, as she and her partner might be very loving and doting cat parents for a shelter pet with someone to educate them.

   I will take great joy in Sophie’s rescue and return to her proper home where she will be happy and loved. I will be a little sad to see the dismay of her abductors when they realize she is gone, even though they are very much responsible for the completely needless distress of Sophie and all her friends and people. While they’ve done everything wrong, I am sure they are not bad people. Maybe there will be a teachable moment where they learn how to adopt a pet the proper way, and how to properly provide for a pet’s needs and emotional well-being.

   Poor Sophie, she is miserable and terrified, and her abductors are well intentioned (for their own interests at least) but completely clueless… Rescue cannot come a moment too soon.

   I am guessing they put their new acquisition in there, in the finest cage, so they can admire Sophie without her getting fur on the carpeting and furniture…
