1.By your own answer, you admit that your god put Abraham through considerable psychological pain. Ipso facto, he put Abraham through psychological torture. His motives for causing such pain are irrelevant. Did He do the deed or not? Your own answer says he did.
2. I absolutely reject the so-called teachings of a Bible that condemns the human species unless they guess correctly between the varying teachings of religious pundits and prophets, the various interpretations, the various sects, and completely different religions. A god that would condemn people without appearing to us all at the same time and laying out His rules in terms we all can understand, is not just an inefficient god, but an evil one. A god who would commit genocide, torture, mass murder, etc., whose morals are clearly inferior to mine, is one I heartily reject.
3. And no, you have not made a sufficient answer to any of my points. And no, I do not fear your irrational god.
Irrelevant. The religion specifically mentioned in the Constitution is one that would be ‘established’ (see the 1st Amendment). The Founders didn’t mind people praying or even praying for success for our government. Because of the horrors of religious wars, they wanted to prevent the establishment of any religion supported by the government. They didn’t care what people believed on their own. They just worked to prevent government from being involved or forcing their religious views on the populace.
Quite a list there, but here we go: I’ve raised over a hundred millions dollars for my communities, charities, and economic development. I’ve formed community alliances for the same. I’ve funded youth programs, homeless shelters, programs for veterans, foodbanks, services for the dually-diagnosed, programs for foster youth (teaching them personal financial management while providing shelter), disaster relief, playgrounds, etc. I led an alliance of nonprofits in providing direct services to people impacted by a natural disaster. I’ve taught oratory to nonprofit leaders to make them more successful fundraisers for their causes. I redesigned and made more profitable a major beverage distribution company. I’ve volunteered with three different Chambers of Commerce, focusing on local economic development. In my retirement, I taught management at one of our local universities’ business schools. I’ve written four novels (and am close to finishing #5). Book 1 has been published. I am doing a final review of the galleys for book 2 prior to publishing. And that’s just for starters.
What a cop out. Again, a deity that acts like the one described in the Bible has lower morals and ethics than I do. I’m not about to worship such a creature. I expect more from a god that deigns to sit in judgment of me and my choices.
That is false. Religious wars are very well documented. The thoughts of the Founders about avoiding religion in government and avoiding religious wars are also very well documented. Perhaps you should read some history before commenting on particular subjects. Go to the James Madison Foundation website and look for the article ‘The Founders and Freedom of Religion’ for more information. Ignorance can be cured.
Factually false. Trump has told more documented lies than any other human being in history. His party repeats his lies over and over again. This makes Trump and the GOP the undisputed champions of lies and dishonesty. The Democrats come nowhere near being the same. The two parties are not the same.
Considering the numbers of wars fought over religion and how awful they were, I cannot agree. The reason America’s founders insisted on keeping religion out of our government was because of the horrors of religious wars in Europe and the sins of the Inquisition. So much for the morality of religions.
True, but Grant was not on the side that attacked first. The role of aggressor rightfully belongs to the South. Therefore, the responsibility for the ensuing carnage is largely (though not exclusively) theirs. To your point, I don’t think I would’ve wanted to be an infantryman in Grant’s army, even if his methods were successful. It was quite an unhealthy situation, especially for those who fought in the Wilderness or Cold Harbor.
