You are so right. The 60’s let us try all sorts of things in various languages, on various hardware platforms.
FORTRAN ( no lower case in those days) was my first language, but assembly language was a lot more fun. I never coded in COBOL, but I worked on a COBOL compiler (CDC 3600).
In the good real old days I worked on the CDC 3600 COBOL compiler. The compiler took several boxes of punch cards. Nobody considered the millenium problem in the early 60’s.
