When I was a chid, we had a cat named Christopher (no idea, we had him before I was born). Then we got another cat a few years later and I got the honor of naming him. I named him Columbus (Christopher, Columbus). Then we got a black and white cat that I named Chess (black and white chess pieces). He was soon joined by Imp (who was quite the Imp as a kitten, but mellowed as he got older). When we lived in France we were adopted by a house panther who I named Charbon (which is French for coal). We took him to the US when we moved back. I didn’t have any new animals for a while due to going to college and moving around so much. Then I moved to Colorado and took Chess and Imp with me, but also took 2 of my brother’s cats because they didn’t want them any more. They were Ralph (my brother named him so no idea) and Boots, a polydactyl so named because my brother thought he looked like he was wearing Army boots. While in Colorado I picked up an adorable kitten that I found in a stairwell of a hotel one night. She was a beautiful dilute tortiseshell. I named her Galadriel because her coloring reminded me of the Tolkien character. When I moved to Arizona I eventually was adopted by Arwen, another of my Tolkien character cats, who had the dark coloring that reminded me of that Tolkien character. Have had no other cats since her (30+ years).
You are correct. I learned that when I was doing medical transcription. Discrete is used in medical transcription fairly regularly and I needed to know the difference because, obviously, they are homophones.
