   I hear what your saying. It’s a kind of siding while other arcs are formed or continued. The Luann guy does this often and sometimes it’s annoying.

   Not in particular, but it would be good if that feel of the old strip was retained. She’s going to find her own way, but for now, it feels flat.

   I discovered this strip two years ago and have enjoyed it under the previous creator’s helm. I’m not going to deride the new person’s take on the Heart and her friends, but I will say Steenz has big shoes to fill. What I’m seeing now looks like a storyboard for Steven Universe or We Bare Bears and comes across like an afterschool special or Degrassi Middle School. I did enjoy the feel of a preteen/tween in a big city and its culture that Mark conveyed. All the Star Wars and pop culture references and the occasional whimsy of Heart’s dream arcs. It would be wrong to expect perfection right out of the blocks, so I’ll check in from time to time to see if anything improves with age. If she can bring back that feel of Philly in her own way, it might be worth sticking around. To be fair, she was sent out with a mandate to “be you” and do the strip as she see’s fit. I’ll not knock that. But I do hope Steenz can recapture the old feel of pre-transition.

   As for Bern, she is just being full of her authority and passive jealousy against Gunth and Bets being happy. She had her chance to have a relationship with him, pushed him aside. Now he’s got someone, she just needs to deal with it.

   I really hope that Gunth can enjoy time with Bets. It seems like he never gets a chance with happiness, like Greg has him pegged for disappointment with every girl he encounters. But I also know that in real life we encounter all sorts of beings before we meet the One.

   Props to Greg for knowing his anime characters: Dodoria from Hero Academia and a passable Sailor Moon. I’m an O.G. anime fan since Astro Boy in 64. I’m 64 and have no plans on leaving the genre. It’s what I grew up with and have come to love.

    I ran an anime shop. I think a business degree will help in managing a future chain of stores she envisions, but the actual nuts and bolts of creating and running a shop is much more basic: lease a store front, get a local business license, get signed up with the state Board or Equalization, do basic bookkeeping and meet the safety requirements.
