   If it’s what they were talking about in the previous strip, it’s “I Want You”, off of Bob Dylan’s Blonde On Blonde album. They got the lyrics a bit wrong, but since the caller’s supposed to be Jimmy Carter, it’s probably an intentional goof.

   And Thudpucker’s right: it’s a really dumb song.

   The strip that shook the comics world …again. I think this was the first time a popular comic strip had shown two people in bed, naked & post-sex.

   Hey…“Alice”? Is this the same woman who turns up homeless in the later strips?

   It’s scary how relevant these older strips still are.

   I know Steve’s a jerk… but stealing $400 from Sam’s mom?? Money that she specifically earmarked for Sam? That’s…wow. That goes beyond jerk & straight into heartless, disgusting asshole.

   I learned to type just as electric typewriters took hold. I wasn’t taught to put double-spaces after a period, either, and my high school was a very strict, high-standards one that focused on college prep. However, it was a standard requirement if you submitted your writing to publishing markets; I still have old formatting requirement sheets from various short story mags that state to use the double-space.

   So…it’s something that came from publishers in the pre-ebook era, which BB would’ve known & had beaten into his head.
