   My uncle/godfather had to go into a veteran’s home after my aunt died. St. Louis home was booked solid, so we found one in a neighboring town. Couldn’t be nicer—clean, good food, no smells and often games and bingo to keep their ‘guests’ involved and happy. They also had a big birdcage for those who wanted to relax or visit with family. Tell his daughter to check it out.

   Just the aroma, but I’ve heard catnip tea is good too. I’ll try some this weekend and let you. Might make a difference as I was bagging home-grown (smells sweet) and not store bought (smells lemony).

   At his age, let him stay at home. I’ll never forgive myself for being persuaded to put mom in one after her diabetes scare. There are plenty of community firms that can help, as I found out too late. She lasted less than a month and died due to an untreated bladder infection that the house doc ignored.

   Can one of his daughters live part-time with him? Or another friend or family member? I applied for help -1/2 day caregiver and my job would have let me work 1/2 days-and was granted on Tuesday the next week—Mom was in a coma by then and died on Friday. Her regular doctor did his best to save her, even giving her drugs that were in trials, but it was too late. The infection had gone untreated too long and had gone into her blood stream.

   Been there for 5 years—loved it, hated the heat. Put ‘solar heat’ (a film you apply) and turned my louvered windows into mini sunshades. When closed, they really kept the heat out.

   A corner of my kitchen has 5 boxes of varying sizes. Every time I think of tossing a box out, a cat will sit or go to sleep in the exact box I wanted to toss. Cats are mind readers!

   Bagging catnip for a pet bazaar I found catnip is great for migraine headaches. Of course, Mom told me to either go to bed or bag the remaining catnip the next day—I was having NO pain and you can imagine a human on a catnip high.

    I have 11 cats (and one small dog) and one cat tree room. I believe they take turns.
