When we lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida, we often visited the Veterans Memorial Park on Merritt Island. One year they had a very touching ceremony honoring the courageous dogs who served alongside our troops during times of war. There is a bronze statue of a Belgian Malinois there that is just beautiful. Several other breeds of dogs have also served in our military, as their specific traits were useful for a diverse range of roles besides combat.

It looks like the request comes from Dad—he’s caught on (obviously) to Red’s attempt at not being caught and lets Red know it in a kind way by playing along with him. Much nicer than how ’ve heard some parents correct their children.

Maybe Martin’s complimenting Mom on her cooking because she’s smiling back at him.

Not so sure. I think Red’s connection to Rover is pretty special; the “romance” could flourish with Red communicating for Rover.

That’s really sweet and Newton would love it because we try not to give him treats at bedtime—he gets a Greenie about an hour after dinner to keep his teeth clean after the many treats he gets during the day!

Rover seems to be looking down at his tummy—is his tummy growling already or is he just hoping for a bedtime snack?

My sister-in-law made a ceramic space ship lamp for my son and it was passed on to my grandson. It’s round, on three legs, has flashing lights inside, and has a little R2D2 standing underneath. I really need to get a picture to share because I’m sure everyone’s scratching their heads over my description.

There was strip where Rover told Red he was sad he’d have to wait so long in heaven to be reunited with Red . . . I’m not sure I’m saying this correctly, but our dogs have us for their entire lives but we only have them for a little while in the space of our own lifespan. I treasure each day I have with Newton, as I did with my other two dog sons.

Rover’s response proves he’s part Lab! (Labs are always hungry, ever hopeful.)
