   Bud Fischer authorized Al Smith to draw the comic in 1932. When Fischer died in 1954, Smith began signing his own name to the strip. Let’s say this strip is from 1950. The national minimum wage was $0.75 an hour, and the working day was eight hours, making a total daily wage of $6.00 and a weekly wage of $30. Whether Jeff was asking for an increase in weekly or daily wages, either way it was a lot of money.

   Dogs should be so discriminating. They also lick their butts and eat really questionable debris from the yard. I don’t think they’re going to wonder if canned food has some “beef by-products”.
