I was offended and disappointed by the Big Nate cartoon on the Comic section of the August 27, 2023 Oregonian showing a person “doofing” another (black) person with a newspaper. Gratuitous violence is offensive and is not funny or entertaining! I was disappointed that the writers could not think of a more creative and less violent (even funny) response to getting sandy at the beach. I was disappointed that the Oregonian would assist in normalizing and promoting interpersonal violence.
I was very disappointed and upset by The Duplex comic in the Saturday April 1, Oregonian showing a woman violently WAPping a bystander. It wasn’t even an April Fool joke. I read the comics for a relief from the violence and problems of the news. Please do not run any more cartoons that endorse and normalize violence. It’s not funny!
letters@Oregonian.comTo the editor,I was offended, consternated and disappointed by the Duplex cartoon on the Comic section of the August 15 Oregonian showing a woman violently slapping someone in a bar. Gratuitous violence is offensive and is not funny or entertaining! I was consternated why the writers could not think of a more creative, less dangerous (even funny) response to an unwanted advance. I was disappointed that the Oregonian would assist in normalizing and promoting interpersonal violence. Mary
