I remember people asking a blind person to call their loved on a payphone after a smoke attack on a subway. People don’t memorize where the numbers are. There were no numbers designated for the letters Q(now =7) or Z (now =9).
Things were so bad in Cuba they started having eyesight problems-turns out vitamin deficiency. And I remember thieves in Venezuela leaving the country because there was nothing left to steal, people were even taking off their wedding rings when leaving the house. Of course who would have believed TP was almost a black market item here.
It was the most useful class in high school. I learned on a manual typewriter and we had an antique one at home that all the kids used to write their papers on. I still have the metal table but have a sewing machine on it. Perfect height and 2 expandable sides. Oh yeah, I have the manual Personal and Professional Typing". Anyone else remember watching Walter Cronkite typing (fairly fast) with 2 index fingers?
I woke up 90% paralyzed many years ago. Ex didn’t want to take me to ER because I was in PJs (his excuse). Told him it was him driving or me calling 911. Turns out I had a pinched nerve on my neck from carrying too much wood, too many packages at work, and picking up heavy child from back seat. My whole back was in a spasm. My neck had been bothering me but I thought it was from sleeping in the wrong position. Spent 2 weeks flat on my back with muscle relaxers and they stretched my head/ my neck on what looked like a medieval torture rack. I could only get up to the bathroom or to eat. Not even TV. Just radio. You better believe that I’m ultra careful picking up anything now.
I’ve given up changing my telephone answering machine.
