The vacuum cleaner uses what, kinetic force?

  5. 14 days ago on The Argyle Sweater

Right. Gravity is a force. I was trying to get ahead of the people who see the sucking action of the vacuum machine and think that is the same thing as a vacuum. Because things fall at the same rate to the ground in an air-tight tube. There, the only force is gravity (no friction). And the I wanted to get ahead of anyone who asks, “if that’s true, what’s holding up all the planets?” I think all are, but everything is falling at the exact same rate, and there is nothing with enough gravity for the whole of the unuverse to fall TO. I guess I didn’t need to answer that. But it is true that there is no Atmosphere – no oxygen. But I’m also thinking that even if there were, all those molecules would have to be held in place by something with gravity. I’m in the mood to muse with my limited knowledge. I’d love to read other people’s musings.

on Earth, vacuums suck. Add gravity, and everything falls at the same rate, because there are no molecules to cause friction. Away from Earth, there is “no” gravity to fall (not a lot of g), and no direction in which to do it, unless there is a spinning body that has gravitational pull. So an object will go in one direction maintaining the speed that it has forever, unless it experiences some kind of friction. Yada, Yada, yada
