Grace, I love it when you suggest we do own research! I was a little hazy on the details about the deleted emails, so I just read the wikipedia entry on Clinton’s email controversy. Here’s the timeline regarding the deletions:
2014: Clinton chief-of-staff Cheryl Mills works with attorneys to identify emails on the personal server that should be archived and preserved for the State Department. 31,830 emails are determined to be personal, unrelated to State Department work, and having no need to be archived.
December 2014: Mills instructs the server provider, Platte River Networks (PRN), to change the retention period for the personal emails to 60 days, after which they would be deleted automatically. The PRN technician assigned the task fails to do so.
March 2015: The public learns of Clinton’s server. The Select Committee on Benghazi subpoenas copies of Benghazi related emails. Mills emails PRN about the committee’s retention request. The PRN tech realizes he messed up, so he erases the emails using a freeware program in an attempt to cover his behind.
So, Clinton and her chief-of-staff followed the State Department rules for archiving the emails and complied with the subpoena. Emails relating to Benghazi had already been archived. By a stroke of incompetence on the part of the tech company, a bunch of emails were supposed to be deleted before the subpoena were deleted after the subpoena, but they were personal emails and didn’t relate to the subpoena anyway.
I hope this clears things up for you. It did for me!
Hey Grace, thanks for the tip! I just read the Newsweek article you mentioned. I learned that monitored alcohol intake in a managed treatment program, with housing and meals, is more effective than leaving chronic alcoholics on the streets. The city reports that the program is cost-effective when compared with the costs of ambulances and ER visits they would expect if the same people weren’t receiving treatment, so it’s a win-win. Good job, San Francisco!
Oh, is tax evasion bad? I thought right-wingers were cool with it. I mean, they don’t seem to mind when Trump does it. And they keep trying to keep the IRS from auditing rich people.
Wow. You seem really upset about immigration. Well, I’ve got some good news for you: Immigration is a huge boost to the economy and immigrants commit less crime than people born here. Sure, there are some problems, not it’s blown way out of proportion by right-wing media and politicians. You really don’t have to worry about it.
But, here’s some bad news: The media you consume and the politicians you support? They’re lying to you.
Exactly. We used to have an open border with Mexico and it worked well. People came to the US for seasonal labor and went back home when the season was over. Once it got harder to cross the border they decided to stay.
I’ve noticed for years that people who complain about the “illegals” never want to talk about the labor market that is bringing them here. If crossing the border to find work is a crime, why isn’t hiring undocumented workers a bigger crime?
The “human shields” bit is such a nasty piece of propaganda. How can you use a civilian or a child as a shield when Israel will kill them too? Everyone in Gaza understands this.
