Unfortunately in a few ways, it is broke. The regular crashing of pages, especially for reading and replying to comments, is something that I do hope improves.

There is a difference between respectful persistence and stalking. The Pepe le Pew approach is “hands on”, restricts movement and is constant. Spud is not sitting in the bushes outside Amelia’s house or calling every hour. He doesn’t jump out and grab her into a hug unexpectedly. He doesn’t try to limit who Amelia talks to. Crushes happen, and relationships are work, so instead teach your sons about consent and that sometimes people don’t click, sometimes relationships fail, and that using power and violence to force attention is what is not appropriate.

If you want people to be more social offline, you need to ensure our libraries, parks, local markets, museums, restaurants, stages and open spaces are affordable, safe, easy to access. You need to stop the book banners. You need to make sure people have enough energy, time and money at the end of the week. You need to make sure your representatives are not removing or restricting rights to control women, LGBTQIA+, minorities, children, immigrants and the poor. And if you don’t want to read this, then just scroll on. But don’t be surprised when you keep hearing it.

Also the 2000s were not idyllic. Coming of age then saw plenty of stress and upheaval that still effects our lives and outlook— 9/11, increased racism, wars we didn’t want fought in our name, ever more school/mass shootings, two financial crashes that have depressed our wages on top of higher bills, larger natural disasters and FB started right then as a “Hot or Not” rating system of college women, while people were “oversharing” through IM and blogs.

You haven’t listened close enough if you think “women’s rights and LGBTQ rights” weren’t in music before 2000.

Testing boundaries is a universal part of growing up. Just because you didn’t have a headstrong child does NOT mean that a parent who does has failed. The vast majority of terrible toddlers grow up into calm, responsible adults.

    1. You’re not on Tik Tok 2. There aren’t many places for young people to dance or even hang out anymore

Or the Scots and Scots-Irish were the ones who brought that “tradition” to NC. Although we haven’t had a good french toast snow in a few years.

People also forget that internet 1.0 had a lot of moderated spaces.

Posting hatred, misinformation, conspiracy theories and childish spam activity is harassment. If you started attacking or screaming at other people in a restaurant, you would get kicked out for the same reason.
