For anyone interested in the drawing process, there is a short video of the title panel for this Sunday strip on the Buckles Comic YouTube channel. The title panels for the 1999 Sunday strips are all new content specifically made for the current books and were never originally printed. I can’t paste a link in this comment section to YouTube, but a search on YouTube for Buckles Comic should bring up the cannel and videos. They are dated using their original print date. This one is from 02/07/99.

Thank you! It means a lot to me knowing Buckles is liked so much. I’ve been trying to make more appearances here in the comment section. Even though I haven’t commented this last month, I still made it here to read what people say. By the way, my wife likes to remind me: “BUCKLES is retired. YOU are unemployed.”

You’re all right about leaving Buckles in the car. A sunny, summer day is deadly. As I wrote the strips, I really came to understand the responsibility behind writing a comic strip. At first, I thought a comic strip was simple humor to be laughed at then forgotten. But, as letters and emails rolled in (rememeber, Buckles was printed in the 90’s) voicing concerns over some Buckles content, I found they are also seen as examples of life that some people take seriously or even follow as advice. As BJP and Joseph mentioned in these comments, I began showing it was cooler weather by Paul and Jill wearing jackets, having the window rolled down etc. Eventually, I stopped writing Buckles in cars altogether.

Hello, everybody! I just wanted to give a heads up that I recently started an Instagram account (bucklescomic). I’m currently showing brand new title panels for past Sunday strips that didn’t have any originally (I stopped drawing them half way through 1998) with timelapse video of drawing the title panel. If you don’t care for Instagram, these are also being posted on the Buckles Facebook page as well.

Good catch! My parents mailbox post was buried into an old milk canister. So, I drew it into the strip.

I’ve been wondering how my past editors had missed so many misspellings. But, recently, as I began preparing the 1997 book collection, I discovered that the 1997 archive I prepared and uploaded to GoComics turned out to be my unedited archive. A big face palm on my part!

This strip was drawn in 1997, like another comment mentioned, the modern vacuums of the day were similar in style. Also, I drew a lot based on my own memories and events from growing up. My mother had a vacuum in this style, so it was just natural drawing it this way.

…meaning they were influences for Buckles as a whole. Not just this one strip.
