Agreed. I like to believe that this arc was purposely placed directly after the previous one. Paul and Jill have their own arcs in this story, too. I go into deeper detail in my comment just below dadthedawg’s.
This Christmas tree is not unlike the one my family has. Shortly after they got married over thirty years ago, my parents got a Christmas tree with separate branches, multiple layers, and a lengthy assembly process. Despite how many needles it loses every year, it still looks amazing. I help my mother put it together every year in one way or another. We string lights as we put on each layer. My mother often mentions getting a pre-assembled tree one year, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. She says she’ll let me have it when the time comes. :-)
Based on what was shown in last week’s strip, this arc was tastefully done. Paul learns his lesson about prioritizing his loved ones over worldly wants. He makes up for his mistake by setting up his family’s old Christmas tree. Jill, on the other hand, is still hurt by Paul. She can’t find it in herself to share Paul’s sentiment. After having a genuine discussion with her about his feelings, Paul’s change of heart is on full display, and Jill, by the last panel, experiences the same.
I believe “evil” is the term to describe to or more of these entities that serve a specific sect for their own gain or some ulterior motive. The term “evils” defines multiples of these groups, and, by extension, their entire civilization.
If Dana makes a third graphic novel release for Phoebe and Her Unicorn, I’d like to see it centered around evil. We got a story about Voltina, and then about Phoebe and Marigold’s relationship. Seeing the backstory of evil in a graphic novel would be an excellent idea! Who’s with me?
