   Do you know what a “simp” is? The term has been around for almost 125 years, but didn’t become popular until 2019 with a more modern meaning. A “simp” is a slang term used to describe someone who shows excessive attention towards another person, often seen as overly submissive or desperate, typically with the hope of gaining affection or a romantic relationship. The other person doesn’t reciprocate the same feelings; They only call on the simp when they need money or help with something. Essentially, “simp” refers to someone who is considered to be “trying too hard” to impress someone else, often in a way that is perceived as pathetic or embarrassing…. exactly the way Gunther interacts with Luann.

   SPOLIER ALERT…. Oh, no, Dawn. I indeed have read this comic through the first time around. After Liz graduates from college, it becomes a teleological clown car (if you don’t know what that word means, look it up), a massive train wreck crashing into the station as Lynn Johnston worked to bring the comic to its end. Lynn tries to convince everyone that Michael is some sort of intellectual, him being a local and unknown author who gets a big cash advance to pen one novel which gets made into a movie. Lynn sets him up as a “Mary Sue” to a level which no real person has even seen before, with Dame Fortune dumping riches on him at every turn. Meanwhile, we have Dee, the pharmacist, who accidentally “oops” her birth control and gets pregnant on their honeymoon, to dutifully start punching out kids and groveling at Michael’s feet . And don’t get me started on the whole Liz/Anthony/Therese mess…

   John and Elly should be grateful that there are other people willing to babysit their kids while they go on vacation. Not everyone has that benefit. They should also be grateful that there’s a family farm they can ship their kids off to for the Summer.
