“And didja notice how our eyes are rapidly receding? We can make them completely sink into our skulls! Watch!”

There have been a few sparse times where Tommy decided to say something about the strip itself, but it’s just a single sentence of a few words saying little more than “nice strip”.

Guyver apparently just calls out to trolls all the time, here and elsewhere, so I don’t know what his deal is.

But otherwise, both persons making a point to whine about people not liking things “the right way” certainly fits Tom Batiuk’s MO, doesn’t it? It is said again – Tom Batiuk reaps what he sows.

You don’t want to understand. It’s been explained to you, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, and here you are again.

“Oh, OK. In that case, you’re disqualified for misrepresenting your content. Now neither of you get anything. Good day.”

    Where’s Crankshaft?

Interesting, I never bothered to look at guyver’s post history. A troll amplifier, then? How bizarre.

Keep up with that talk and Tom will sue you into a ball of dirt.

When I was a child, the comics that I read and cared about were the newspaper strips. I didn’t care one bit about Marvel and DC.

Since I lived in the Chicago metro area, I had access to both the Tribune and Sun Times, which meant that I got to read many strips. FW and CS were two of them.

The earliest CS strip that I can recall was a Sunday where all but the last panel shown fallen leaves artfully drifting in the wind, with the last panel revealing it was Ed deliberately using a leaf blower to push them onto Lillian’s yard. Ha ha.

Then I came across some Dinkle posters in highschool marching band and got to wear the Dinkle branded shoes, so that tied that together. Beyond that, though, I never considered myself an adoring fan of Tom’s work. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.

Later, repeated posting on joshreads was able to show just how dreadful FW had become (just as Act III got underway) and that leads us to now.

chief tommy, January 1 2025: “Happy New Year Crankshaft fans. Here’s hoping positivity and good karma for you all”

chief tommy, today: “Go kill yourself, JJ”.

    Fascinating.

What drives people to come to this page for this strip and read the comments if not also contribute comments day after day?

It is posts like these as much as anything else. It truly fascinates me how someone thinks that a post like this is a justifiable response to what was originally written.

In response to a guy grousing about a strip of dubious quality, we jump to someone who paints a descriptive picture of that guy’s physical characteristics and ends it with a wish for bodily harm. This is incredible, isn’t it?
