“When we drill and frack more…”
Our precious, life-giving ground water will be further contaminated by proprietaryily held trade secret blends of highly toxic chemicals that contribute to increasing cancer rates and other diseases. Likewise, more and more people will have their lifetime exposure to PFAS exponentially increased (try asking the people of Conyers, GA; Westlake, LA; Flint, MI; or East Palestine, OH how they feel about what highly toxic chemical exposure has done to their lives). Additionally, we’ll continue to experience earthquakes in regions that never recorded them before. Who knows what impact, in frequency and intensity, this is likely to have on previously, seismicly stressed regions?

Sadly, (maybe even tragically), we’re ALL going to get hit with Trump’s punitive tariffs, which are basically yet another tax. This will be a horrendous burden, especially for the already inflation-ridden working class. Unless huge amounts of money are immediately directed towards re-creating USA manufacturing jobs, consumers will not be able to find a great many frequently used products that are even made in the USA.Since Trump has stated that he intends to direct his tariffs against China, without assisting the re-creation of the manufacturing sector in the USA, then this tariff boondoggle will make other countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico, etc., wealthier. The already financially strapped poor and middle-class people of the USA will experience further hemorrhaging of their wallets, with no relief. Supply chain issues will again be exacerbated (cue the empty shelves). Meanwhile, rents will continue to be exorbitantly high, and the political class will be threatening more austerity measures, once again looking to make cuts to Social Security and assistance programs. Will the fast-approaching one trillion-dollar military budget face substantial cuts as well? I doubt it. Companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon will continue to rake in the cash, while more and more citizens in the USA become homeless; our children go hungry and poorly educated; and our infrastructure continues to crumble. If the people don’t immediately start uniting and demanding better of our government (such as “Trump, don’t you dare continue to populate your Administration with swamp monsters, again!”), then the deeply corrupted political class will gladly continue to do whatever their billionaire donors want them to do!

Monopolies are really good for the monopoly owners: not so much for the rest of us.

Yes, Capitalism has degraded into Predatory Capitalism, which is killing life and ecosystems on Earth. The need to transition to a more balanced, life-affirming system is urgent and massive. Personally, I would advocate for the wisdom of the Principles of the Resource Based Economy (RBE). There are several approaches to an RBE. The “Free World Charter” is an elegant and well-thought-out concept that has the potential to resolve a multitude of humanity’s most pressing imperilments. The simplicity of the Free World Charter’s management of global resources is mind-blowingly direct and could be very effective if enough people could allow themselves to conceive of this next possible future for humanity and life on Earth.

and @nuncanunca If the USA had maintained and continued improving our Public Transportation system, then there wouldn’t need to be so much individual driving all over town. Better yet, if the malls and shopping centers (along with their jobs!) hadn’t been neglected.

Tariffs are not a great solution. It’d be far better to stop spending trillions on the Military Industrial Complex and instead invest billions in re-establishing USA manufacturing jobs; supporting worker-owned cooperatives; and providing efficient healthcare and quality education for the people. The People not bombs.

So, quick, accurate delivery in exchange for Amazon workers’ health and safety; the waste and destruction of resources & the environment; and the loss of regional jobs and strong economies? The true costs of much of our current systems are not always immediately apparent.

@Mordock999 Yes, but first, USA corporations planted millions of jobs in China and overseas, abandoning USA workers, their families, and communities. Then these corporations established polluting, energy-guzzling, precarious supply lines of thousands of miles, that are too easily disrupted. Countries need local/regional (preferably worker-owned (worker-owned companies don’t have a history of abandoning their communities)) manufacturing jobs to support their economies.

Judging by a number of the comments today it seems Greg Evans may have subtly “mentioned” current political events without actually mentioning them.
@beachlvr I like the points you’ve made and agree it would be valuable to see Tiff and Stef work out their differences in more mature ways. However, as @paldec and @NiteKat described, it seemed Tiff mainly just wanted to find out if Les thought she was Hot.
Although seeing Tiff and Stef in a brawl may be cathartic for some, it would be a much better example to see their characters choose self-reflection and accept responsibility for their own actions in this conflict. Maybe Dez has the skills necessary to guide each of them along that path? Though frankly, Stef may be too challenging for Dez to reach.
