Personally, I LIKE the old fashioned varieties: Winesap, Northern Spy, Cortland, Black Oxford, Russets, Pippins, Gravenstein, Wolf River and Ashmead’s Kernel (and dozens more—many were regional specialties). They all had their unique tastes and qualities. There were “early” apples, “dessert” apples, cooking apples, others were excellent storage apples. Bring them back!

True…Our garage is not connected to the house and is, in fact all the way across the driveway. Hadn’t thought about it, so my bad!

No dirt necessary… Trump’s little puppet master Elon informed the entire committee (in particular Senator Ernst, since she would have been the most likely holdout) that anybody who voted against Trump’s nominees would get primaried by another candidate funded by Musk. Seems to me that this sort of extortion/blackmail should be illegal. Musk should be grabbed by the scruff of his neck and the seat of his pants and chucked right out of the U.S.—let him go buy governments to play politics with some place else.

fire up the generator, but make sure it’s sitting in the garage near an open bay door!

Oh no! Be afraid, Arlo; be very afraid…if rain is falling onto surfaces below freezing you are going to get icing! A build up of ice on trees and power lines will result in power outages….slick, icy roads and walks…and just general mayhem. Back in 1998, New England and Quebec got three days of freezing drizzle. Quebec lost a dozens of power line transmission ‘towers’, not to mention trees down or broken everywhere. We live in western Maine near the White Mtns and we lost our power for two weeks and the tops of nearly every pine around the house and driveway. It was not a fun two weeks!

I LOVE that little video with Santa Claus and the reindeer singing back up.

One can always take a sponge bath. Not quite as satisfying as a shower or a good soak, but adequate.

TBH, I don’t think Wiley is wrong.

Not in 2002 which is when this strip was published. I think the cannabis farm evolved from the orphanage that Duke and Honey ran…but I could be mis-remembering. (That happens a lot these days—the organic data banks are getting filled up!)

I keep a physical appointment calendar at my workspace (never in my phone!) and an Old Farmer’s Almanac calendar for the flower pictures, the moon phases and all sorts of other non-essential but interesting tidbits of information.
