    The southern mindset of succession never really disappeared after the Civil War, Many Texans are particularly vocal of their past, albeit brief, sovereignty. They are attempting to project that idea into the present. They neglect to consider that the world is a global market now, and international trade is strictly regulated. Economic collapse, empty stores, and an abundance of military grade firearms in private hands, will inevitably bring the “Lone Star-struck” neo-nation into a twin hells ape of Haiti’s anarchy.

    The citizens of conservative states are very enthusiastic about their provincial rights, but willfully neglect their obligations to the nation as a whole, or simple human decency.

    There is very little to differentiate between a mob boss and the former 45th POTUS. Both feature sociopathic, narcissistic behavior of personal gain to appease their megalomania. Law, morality, and emphatically driven compassion are meaningless or dispised by them. The harm, the destruction to society is only limited by the area of absolute control they can achieve.

    So far assassination, physical at least, has been off the table. Character is another story. Personal smears and absurd propaganda is the warp and weft of conservative political campaigning. If conservatives have better policies, great, demonstrate how well they benefit all of us, and prove their validity. Not much data driven evidence has been submitted, but loads of tribal dogwhistling and emotional (be afraid, be very afraid) manipulation. There may come a time when braver, rational minds may prevail. Whether the nation fragments into several sovereign entities is yet to be determined.

    Yes, but up to 1987 the FCC had the Fairness Doctrine applying to TV and radio: “The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.” Once this doctrine was removed, false and dubious “news” and “opinion” networks such as Fox, Lindbaugh, Glen Beck, etc. seem to proliferate like maggots on a corpse. No rebuttals, and when feebly questioned as to their validity, “Hey, it’s only TV (entertainment).” But never taking responsibility for purposely deceiving the American public.

    Ironically, decades ago as social media was being developed, it was heralded as a great tool for democracy. The idea that anyone could contribute, discuss and debate an infinite variety of issues. Hopefully resulting in more informed and educated voters. This was sadly, grossly, shortsighted. It assumed society had a foundation of educational standards. Skills such as investigative research, skeptical analysis, logic and reason. Misinformation, misdirection, and outright lies prolificated. And like a cancer, grew and threatened the very lives of participants. Proven medical science was disparaged. Confidence in elections and in traditional American political processes destroyed. Creators of these electronic social networks became wealthy beyond the dreams of avarice, but neglected placing guard rails in their formats allowing for debunking of malicious falsehoods. When I was a youth, before wifi tech, free speech was tempered with the antedotal proverb that shouting “fire” in a crowded theater when there was none, was not protected speech. There were consequences both to the public, and justice metted out to the instigator. It does not bode well these days for society where any sociopath or moron can claim to be an expert without credentials or actual facts.

    Interesting. The methods of quarantine and isolation during epidemics are well established medical science designed to slow or stop the spread of disease. It is not a political issue and cooperation must be as uniform as driving a car in the correct traffic lane. Otherwise widespread death and chaos is the result. Abortion is a established medical procedure that is founded on the confidentially of doctor and patient, like any other. Federal protections are necessary to maintain access to medical care without a crazy patchwork of political intervention, reminiscent of antebellum slave vs free states. Do you believe the SCOTUS should overturn the 13th amendment and let states establish slavery again? That would fit with the originalists SCOTUS judges jurisprudence who quoted 17th century law overturning Roe. It seems that many want to obey laws that only they approve of, science and facts be dam*ed. Before the Constitution, the Confederation was written and enacted to acknowledged state supremacy. It failed miserably. Hence the Constitution : “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” Emphasis on a unified people, with protections and laws that guarantees individual rights, but also guarantees states have to work together under one government, for the benefit of all and to maintain those rights.
