I was going through some old newspapers ā 60s and 70s ā the other day glancing at some old comic strips. Seeing the old writing style and older familiar artwork really makes the current day strip sickening. I still find it hard to believe this poor quality material actually goes to press. I would settle for the quality art of Luann to be acceptable. Reading Gil Thorp I find it difficult to recognize the same character from day to day. Sometimes from panel to panel. It looks like Iām out of here as of now.
Interesting as I did not know. I imagine comics are now driven by bottom line numbers. Not artistic creatvity. Is the GT syndicate owned by off shore interests?
So I never dreamed the artwork would ever be this terrible. Coupled the poor writing skills we have all suffered for a couple of years I am close to walking away from the strip Gil Thorp. Story arcs that change after only a couple of days filled with endless one of a kind type one day dramas that are never explained are awful. If the enough papers drop the strip perhaps the syndicators would also stop distribution. Perhaps this could force a sale to a capable writer and artist? Can anyone name a strip this terrible anywhere else?
After only two days and a display of only four characters I think I may be in for trouble. The new look of everybody is way too much. Was over the top. I think this strip should spend a few days re-introducing each character on a name by name basis. Limit each panel to one character drawing and After a 6 day week of four panels a day 24 characters could be d be depicted. At 3 panels per day 18 characters.
