It wouldn’t be all that unusual for a teen or a college student to date more than one person at the same time. It seems neither Adam nor Laura are upset about it, so likely there wasn’t an issue.
Story problems are an excellent method of teaching math: specifically its use. It teaches how to extract the information needed (a good story problem should always have extraneous data not needed for the question) and apply it to solve the question asked.
People here say they never used it. You have. It may have not been trains moving, but any problem that required using any math to solve. Learning any subject requires both the base information and how to apply it.
