   A more literal translation: “I am going to do a diaper fast.” Not much information is online about the brilliant artist Ham, but if he is a native Spanish speaker, he is likely Catholic. The Catholic holiday Lent, wherein observers choose to abstain from an earthly pleasure, begins March 5th this year, perhaps making this cartoon especially topical.

   I think there are countless Bushmiller strips through the decades that were never properly archived, meaning that even ‘Classic Nancy’ should have lots of unexhausted strips for fans. I’m hopeful that one day the publishers will get around to constructing a true omnibus.

   Appreciate the thorough response. One I greatly admire about classic Nancy is the sheer economy of jokes—words are very rarely superfluous in order to reach the punchline. This one seemed unusually overwritten for such a tight strip. Just a thought.
