A cowlick is usually on the back of the head like Dennis the Menace has.

I have many great stories from teaching in Norwich, Kansas. I taught there during the 1965-66 School Year. I was living in Tulsa and in October 1974, I was a volunteer with a church youth group and we took them to Oklahoma City for a youth convention. On Friday, David, the Youth Pastor, decided to give the kids break in the Afternoon and we took the church bus to Crossroads Mall. My favorite place to go to in a mall is a book store. We told the kids they would have free time in the Mall and us three adults would do what we wanted to do. And they had to meet us at the mall entrance at a certain time and we would to dinner. The first store I went to was the book store. At the back of the store was the art books. There was a table with discounted art books on it. While I was looking at a book, a young woman stood at the table. And then she asked, “Sir, do you mind if I ask your name?” I said, “I don’t mind. It’s Joe Doty.” She said, you might not remember me. My name was Sandra Doer and I was in your art class in Norwich, Kansas. You made art fun and you turned me onto art. My brother, Joey, and I went to Tulsa to live with our father. (I did know her parents were divorced when I was her teacher and she was in the 9th grade) I took more art classes in high school. I went to Tulsa University and majored in Art Design. I got married and my husband got a job here in Oklahoma City. I am an assistant manager in this bookstore." Sandra was a talented art student. I had some great students in that class. I wish I had taken pictures of their work.

Several years ago, when I had a Classmates account, I chatted with Gary who was in the French class. When he took French, one girl was almost always the last one to come into the class room. I would say, “Fermez la porte.” She would say, “Huh?” And Gary would say, ‘Je t’adore." That was always funny because he said, “I love you in French.” But, it sounded like he said, “Shut the door” with a French accent.

Back in the 1970s, I worked at “My Pi Pizza.” All of the pizzas were pan pizzas.

I had a teacher who told about going on vacation and meeting her friend who lived in Boston. She said her friend told people, “She’s from Oklahomer.”

Gay men and assumed to be gay men were put into concentration camps in Germany. But, when the Allied Forces liberated the Jews and some others from concentration camps, the gays were not set free. Why? Because homosexuality was illegal in Germany.

I am a fan of Professional Bull Riders. One of the Champion riders was “Don Gay.” I never inquired about his sexual orientation. I just liked watching him ride a bull.

When I was in the 10th grade at Chelsea High School, there was about whose last name was Gay, His father, Felix Gay, was the Superintendent of Chelsea Public Schools. This was during the 1958-59 school year. Dad had been friend with Mr. Gay back in the 1930s. When I lived in North Hollywood, CA, I had a seasonal job as a cashier at the Target store. One of the assistant managers’ last name was Gay; but, he was not gay. Another assistant manager was not only gay; he was a drama queen.
