You are badly misinformed. The military (and veterans) do not unanimously – or even largely – support Trump. The military community never was monolithically conservative, although it used to lean heavily right compared to the civilian population. Older officers still tend toward the right, but the military is now very diverse politically. People who listed their occupations as military contributed more money to Obama’s campaign than to his opponents in the last two elections, according to the FEC records. I’m an OIF vet who served for 21 years, and I strongly oppose Trump.

“Stop wasting tax dollars on pointless research. If its worth doing, private industry will fund it.”Only if “worth doing” = “profitable in less than a year”.

“Elizabeth Warren faked her quota-hire status at Harvard. In Washington she’s just another blowhard”Nope. Harvard already stated that they did not make any consideration of any ethnic factors in her hiring. As to her being a “blowhard”, read one (or more) of her books, or even one of her articles, on economics. Then tell me honestly if she doesn’t make sense. I’ll vote for her for President. We need an economist for President, and she’s one of the best. Right-wingers hate her out of ignorant reflex – if they would read her writings, they would HAVE to agree that she makes sense on economics.

Bickering about which granfalloon within a basically corrupt demographic (politicians) is more corrupt. The very definition of futility.

I was only 7, but I had started reading early and was reading a lot of the newspaper every day, so I understood who the President was. We got sent home from school. My Dad was very upset, but silent. We watched the funeral on TV – I guess they must have sent us home early that day, too, so we could see it – and I had never seen my Dad so grim. I remember Mom drew the curtains – something I had never seen her do in the daytime – at the time I thought it was so we could see the TV better, but later I found out that in the part of the country where she came from, that was what you did when there was a death in the family.

I remember Bobby’s death a bit better – I was 12 – did you know Sirhan Sirhan is still alive? And I remember the second of the trilogy – when Dr. King was killed – earlier that same year.

I, too, am a recovering Republican. I was getting fed up with the far-right’s antics, but was still considering myself a conservative – and I still do, in some ways – and had been registered as a Republican since I had started voting. And then … Palin. That’s all she wrote. And I am Alaskan – lots of my fellow Alaskans supported her just because, you know, hometown girl makes the big time. But she proceeded to make a fool of herself, came home profoundly changed – and NOT in a good way – by her time in the spotlight, abandoned her commitment to our state, and embarked on a bizarre career of being famous for being famous.

And the GOP still – at least in public – still supports her.

    Goodbye, GOP.
