Yeah, I agree with my old friend motivemagus. First, Mann & Ornstein’s book is definitely worth reading. And second, Markstein is giving into the fallacy of parity here. Put simply, the biggest problem in Washington right now is the Republican Party. (And it started before the Tea Party.) (Though the Tea Party has made everything monumentally worse!)
Voters in California don’t get to decide about other people’s civil rights. What if voters in the state of North Carolina decided that post-menopausal women couldn’t get married? In the same way, that vote would be completely invalid. You don’t get to vote on civil rights. You don’t get to single out a group of people for different treatment.
