The qualities Norm describes are that of a “human” regardless of politics. In fact, the vast majority of libertarians and conservatives I’ve know exhibit those characteristics. Oddly enough the typical modern liberal/progressive only exhibits them as long as you agree with them. Once you disagree, they treat you with disdain and no respect act all.
Yes, which is precisely what the (packaged and marketed) Covid fear did to our society. It wasn’t fear as a warning, if it were there would have been no lockdowns or school closings. It was fear for the sake of control. And after this past year, some people, like my 94 year old mom who has spent her entire life afraid of spending money, will retain fear for the remainder of their lives.
“So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is…fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” — Franklin Delano Roosevelt – 1st inaugural address, 1933.
Lots of context there, and yes it’s subtle. I would write/say “I’m seeing the ball really well”, The problem is that “well” has been well… replaced. As have most adverbs. Most adjectives are routinely used as adverbs, especially in speech. I checked a couple of online dictionaries, one doesn’t show “good” as and adverb at all, and the other lists it as “informal”. A good discussion of this topic (adj vis adv) came up several years ago with the Apple “think different” campaign. Many thought it should be “think differently” which would work. However, I believe Apples intent was for “different” do function as an noun (i.e. a category of thinking).
Nope, you need the adverb to modify the verb “feel”. “I feel good, so feel me, preferably right here.” is the only way “I feel good” (if you were to feel me) can be correct.
Nope, the libertarian will say “who ever owns the road can set the rules, it’s your choice to use that road”. And of course, a libertarian would allow anyone to build roads who could pull it off. So many people misunderstand libertarianism…
What’s with bringing back the idiotic (and useless) masks?
