That’s it. I’m hitting the ‘delete’ button on this strip. I’ve had it up to my ears with cartoonists who editorialize in what are supposed to be amusing strips. Also, what the @#!$ makes Jan think I care what her opinions are? If I want an editorial cartoon I’ll go to the editorials page. Feh!Also, p.s., it is beyond the pale to wish harm to someone just because you don’t like his politics. I’m outta here.
THANK YOU, jdono!! I’m so sick of seeing “begs the question” used as though it means that a question begs to be asked. People, that’s NOT what it means. Look it up!!! Grrrrr.
It is just as bigoted to vote FOR any person because of their race, ethnicity, gender, etc., as it is to vote AGAINST them for these reasons. These are simply facts of life, and do not confer good judgment, wisdom, fairness or any other desirable leadership trait. Martin Luther King said that he hoped to see the day when people would be judged on the “content of their character” instead of the color of their skin. That’s what keeps getting left behind in these discussions.
That said, I am opposed to Sotomayor’s confirmation because I believe Supreme Court Justices should decide cases based on Constitutional law, not on personal experiences and “empathy”, whatever that means.
I liked the original FBOFW much better. In this rendition, Elly is pissy and whiny and resentful about being a stay-at-home mom. I HAD to work when my kids were pre-school, and would have given anything to be able to stay home with them. I’m pretty much fed up with Elly’s constant self-pitying bad attitude. The original Elly had a much better sense of humor and handled life’s adversities better. This one is a case of arrested development.
