   Because a hashtag is not a symbol, it’s a tag. It’s in the name. #summer and #typography are hashtags (if used in a medium that supports hashtags), # in itself isn’t.I have no problems with social media, it’s misnomers that I can’t stand.I like how you responded in three paragraphs to my considerably shorter outburst, though, making all sorts of assumptions about me.    It’s HASHMARK. Or number sign, or pound sign, or octothorpe. This is one of my largest pet peeves.
