Same here – My music collection ranges from Abba to Zappa. In between are soundtracks, classical pieces, Hair Metal, pop, rap, etc. Sticking to one genre seems… boring.

And he’s not wrong. However, I’d like a source that just reports the news, without bias, without opinion, without requiring me to find another source to give the alternate view.

Yes, I can find video of a thing happening. That’s fine; but even that can be misconstrued, even without doctoring. For example, let’s say there is video of a celebrity clocking some individual, knocking her out cold. If I only see that part of the video, it would be left up to me to assume the celebrity is some hot tempered misogynist who needs to be locked up. However, what if there is other video showing that the woman attacked him first, and he tried his best to keep her at bay before he had to finally deck her. That would certainly change the context.

My point is, what I’d like to see in this example news report is that this celebrity certainly hit the person, but should also show the video that explains what happened that led up to that hit. No bias, no helping viewers decide on what happened. Just report it, show all the video available, and let me decide.

Honestly, the only place I see something like that happening, to a limited extent, is my local regional news. They at least try to make use of what they learned in College.

I find it interesting… Yes, there is a LOT of right-wing yellow journalism, mainly due to the rise (and fall) of Rush Limbaugh. However, it should be noted that for many years, he was a lone ship in a vast sea of yellow journalism from the left.

This was before MSNBC and others of that ilk. I’m talking CNN, which used to be a fantastic news source that gave us, every 30 minutes, a recap of all that was happening in the world… without bias. Then, that changed. I was merely a teenager back then, but I do remember being constantly bombarded with decidedly liberally biased reports and ideals.

Once Rush became ultra-popular, not only with the Far Right, but with mainstream folk in the middle, it was discovered what a great money-making scheme that was. Fox News was created. MSNBC and CNN countered. Yellow journalism became rampant, couched in the veil of “It’s just opinion” rhetoric.

Now, it is impossible, or at best extremely unlikely that you’ll find a news source that reports the news. I don’t care if a news source reports from both sides of the coin. I just wish to have a description of what’s happening to the coin.

At the age where you start losing your hair, you also start losing your worries about social acceptance. All in all, not seeing a huge downside to this!
