   There was a lecure on BookTV (C-Span2) and they stated that deregulation sank the titanic like it did our banking system. They used lighter weight steel plates to save money, burn less coal, haul more cargo. The steel plates were cold punched which weakens them. If they hit the iceberg head on they wouldn’t have sank because only one or two compartments would have ruptured. They built the ships longer, not stronger. It broke up at an eleven degree angle, not at forty-five. They weren’t expecting it to break up so soon. That’s why the band was playing on the deck. The life boats went away half full because everyone was expecting to be rescued soon.
