We used to live close to a dairy and they would disperse the manure with giant sprinklers. Our dog would come home at times just green! Maybe he was taking a shower in the stuff.
A scorpion was walking along a path one day when he came to a stream. He could not see any way across.
Scuttling around, he eventually saw a frog sitting on a lily pad.
He went over to the frog and asked, “Say, can you do me a favor and take me over to the other side of this stream, by letting me ride on your back?”
The frog looked askance at him and said, “No way! You’re a scorpion. If I let you ride on my back, you’ll sting me, and I will die.”
The scorpion said, “No, that won’t happen. If I did that, you’d die and sink into the stream, and I would drown. That’s crazy, I’d never do a thing like that.”
The frog thought for a moment and then said, “Yeah, that makes sense, you’d die too if you stung me.”
The frog left the lily pad and swam over to where the scorpion was standing, and the scorpion got onto the frog’s back.
The frog started swimming to the other shore of the stream. In the middle of the stream, the scorpion stung the frog in his back.
The frog screamed out, “NO! You did sting me! I’m dying, but, you’ll die too. Why did you do it?”
And the scorpion said, “Hey… I’m a scorpion. Stinging is what scorpions do.”
